I dated a man that, went he got a new pair of wallabies in suede, he would hose them down. This way the entire surface was water stained evenly. I'm not sure whether or not he waterproof them after that. That man took pristine care of his clothing and shoes.

Ok, I thought I took clothing too seriously, but you’ve reassured me

As for not having a waterproof sole, that just seems counterintuitive to the very nature of *shoe*.

As someone who constantly fights the urge to keep things pristine this read like a horror novel to me.

It’s like every time you touch them you get three more spots

Are you tempted to run through the rain in them and just get it over with?

Wild and free at last

(while the soles last)

I am worried about those soles.

You will see that what will change them the most is sun. If you forgot em outside a hot and sunny summer day you won’t recognise em.

So if you prefer a more gentle patina, beware of summer !
