Thank you Callum! Your vintage herringbone jacket hits all the right notes AND is a bargain, considering it’s almost 10x times cheaper than the options listed in the article haha

Yep, my tweed collection is growing all the time haha. It’s fascinating to be able to see the differences between English and American jackets in person, and a brown herringbone, grey herringbone, and a tan houndstooth, pretty much sets you up to match with anything

Which of the two styles do you prefer, English or American?

Side note. The brown-ish herringbones seem to be even more versatile than grey. I was surprised how few grey herringbone outfits I was able to find comparing to browns. Meanwhile, it’s the grey herringbone sport coat that’s considered to be an icon. Fascinating haha

The unconstructed American is definitely more to my tastes, a soft shoulder flatters me a touch more .

As someone who now owns both brown and grey herringbones, I think they’re about equal in terms of versatility, and equal to my houndstooth as well. I wouldn’t put my brown blazer with my charcoal flannels, and I wouldn’t pair my grey blazer with my brown cords, but I would pair my houndstooth with both. But all three go with my khakis, my no. 2 dress pants and my 501s.
